Overview
Connecting Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to Datadrew lets you see website traffic, sessions, conversions, and user behavior alongside your Shopify and ad platform data. This integration powers the Website Traffic report and provides session data for the Hourly Performance dashboard.
Prerequisites
A Google account with access to a GA4 property that tracks your Shopify store
At least Viewer-level access to the GA4 property
GA4 must be set up and actively collecting data on your store (Universal Analytics is not supported)
Datadrew installed on your Shopify store
Step-by-step connection
Open the Integrations page. In Datadrew, click Integrations in the sidebar.
Find the Google Analytics card. Locate the Google Analytics card and click "Connect".
Sign in to Google. A Google sign-in window will open. Select the Google account that has access to your GA4 property.
Grant permissions. Google will ask you to allow Datadrew to read your Analytics data. Review the permissions and click "Allow". Datadrew requests read-only access to your analytics data.
Select your GA4 property. After authorization, a dialog will list all GA4 properties accessible with your Google account. Select the property that corresponds to your Shopify store.
Confirm the connection. Click "Connect" to finalize. The Google Analytics card will update to show a "Connected" status.
Wait for the initial sync. Your GA4 data will begin syncing. The first sync typically takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.
What data syncs
Datadrew syncs the following data from your GA4 property:
Website overview — daily sessions, users, pageviews, bounce rate, and engagement metrics
Traffic sources — sessions and conversions broken down by source and medium (e.g., google/organic, facebook/cpc)
Devices — sessions by device category, operating system, and browser
Active users — daily, weekly, and monthly active user counts
Traffic acquisition — detailed session source/medium report
Hourly metrics — sessions, add-to-carts, checkouts, e-commerce purchases, and conversions by hour for the Hourly Performance dashboard
Where to find your data
Once connected, your GA4 data appears in:
Acquisition > Website Traffic — dedicated traffic analytics report showing sessions, sources, devices, and conversions
Acquisition > Hourly Performance — GA4 sessions and conversion data alongside ad and Shopify metrics
Drew AI — ask questions like "What are my top traffic sources this month?" or "How is my conversion rate trending?"
Troubleshooting tips
"No properties found" — Make sure you are signing in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 property. GA4 properties and Universal Analytics properties are separate — only GA4 is supported.
Data looks incomplete — GA4 can take 24-48 hours to process data on Google's side. If recently collected data is missing, it may still be processing.
Wrong property selected — Disconnect and reconnect from the Integrations page to choose a different GA4 property.
"Permission denied" error — You need at least Viewer access to the GA4 property. Ask your Google Analytics administrator to grant you access.
Note: Datadrew connects to GA4 only (not Universal Analytics). If you have not yet migrated to GA4, you will need to set it up on your Shopify store first. Google provides a migration tool in your Analytics admin panel.
