How to connect Google Ads

Step-by-step guide to connecting your Google Ads account to Datadrew.

Updated today

Overview

Connecting Google Ads to Datadrew gives you a complete picture of your paid advertising performance. Your Google Ads data is blended with Facebook Ads and Shopify data to provide unified metrics like blended ROAS, CPA, and product-level ad performance.

Prerequisites

  • A Google account with access to the Google Ads account(s) you want to connect

  • Admin, Standard, or Read-only access to the Google Ads account

  • Datadrew installed on your Shopify store

Step-by-step connection

  1. Open the Integrations page. In Datadrew, click Integrations in the sidebar.

  2. Find the Google Ads card. Look for the Google Ads card and click "Connect".

  3. Sign in to Google. A Google sign-in window will open. Select the Google account that has access to your Google Ads account.

  4. Grant permissions. Google will ask you to allow Datadrew to access your Google Ads data. Review the permissions and click "Allow". Datadrew requests read-only access to your ad performance data.

  5. Select your Google Ads account. After authorization, you will be redirected back to Datadrew. A dialog will list all Google Ads customer accounts accessible with your credentials — including both manager (MCC) accounts and individual ad accounts. Select the account you want to connect.

  6. Confirm the connection. Click "Connect" to finalize. The Google Ads card will update to show a "Connected" status.

  7. Wait for the initial sync. Your Google Ads data will begin syncing. The first sync typically takes 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the volume of your ad history.

What data syncs

Datadrew syncs the following data from your Google Ads account:

  • Campaign performance — daily metrics by campaign including spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, and cost, broken down by ad network type

  • Account performance — account-level daily metrics by device and network

  • Customer details — account name and configuration

  • Shopping performance — product-level ad data from Shopping and Performance Max campaigns, including product item IDs that map to Shopify products

  • Hourly insights — hourly spend, clicks, and impressions for the Hourly Performance dashboard

Manager (MCC) accounts

If your Google Ads account is managed through a Manager account (also called MCC — My Client Center), you will see both the manager account and its sub-accounts listed during setup. Manager accounts themselves cannot be selected for data sync — select the individual client account underneath the manager that you want to analyze.

Note: Manager accounts appear in the list but are disabled for selection. Look for the individual ad accounts nested under them.

Where to find your data

Once connected, your Google Ads data appears in:

  • Dashboard — blended ad metrics (combined with Facebook Ads)

  • Acquisition > Ads > Google Ads — dedicated Google Ads report

  • Acquisition > Ads > Blended Summary — cross-platform ad comparison

  • Acquisition > Product Performance — product-level ROAS including Google P-Max campaigns

  • Acquisition > Hourly Performance — hourly ad spend and performance

  • Drew AI — ask questions like "Compare my Google Ads and Facebook Ads performance this quarter"

Troubleshooting tips

  • "No accounts found" — Ensure your Google account has direct access to a Google Ads account. If you only have access through a manager account, you may need to request direct access.

  • Permission denied — You need at least read-only access to the Google Ads account. Contact your Google Ads administrator to verify your permissions.

  • Wrong account selected — You can disconnect and reconnect from the Integrations page to choose a different account.
