Connecting your Google Ads account

Step-by-step guide to connecting Google Ads to Datadrew via OAuth.

Updated today

Connecting your Google Ads account lets Datadrew pull campaign performance data alongside your Shopify and other marketing data. This guide walks you through connecting Google Ads via OAuth.

Prerequisites

  • A Google account with at least read access to the Google Ads account (or MCC account) you want to connect.

  • An active Datadrew account with your Shopify store already connected.

  • Pop-ups enabled in your browser.

Step-by-step connection

  1. In Datadrew, go to Settings > Integrations.

  2. Find the Google Ads card and click Connect.

  3. A Google sign-in window will open. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your Google Ads account.

  4. Google will ask you to grant Datadrew permission to view and manage your Google Ads data. Click Allow.

  5. After authorization, you will be redirected back to Datadrew.

  6. Datadrew will display a list of Google Ads customer accounts accessible with your credentials. This includes:

    • Standard accounts -- Regular advertiser accounts you can select.

    • MCC (Manager) accounts -- Displayed for reference. If you have an MCC account, all sub-accounts managed by it are also listed and individually selectable.

    • Test accounts -- Labeled so you can skip them.

  7. Select the account you want to connect and click Confirm.

MCC (Manager) account support

If your Google account has access to an MCC (My Client Center) manager account, Datadrew automatically discovers all sub-accounts under it. You will see both the manager account and all its child accounts listed during selection. Select the specific advertiser account(s) you want to track -- do not select the manager account itself.

When querying sub-accounts under an MCC, Datadrew uses the manager account ID as the login customer ID to ensure proper API access.

What data syncs

Once connected, Datadrew syncs the following data streams from your Google Ads account:

  • Campaign data -- Campaign names, statuses, types, daily metrics broken down by ad network type and hour.

  • Customer (account) data -- Account-level daily metrics segmented by date.

  • Account performance report -- Daily metrics broken down by ad network type and device.

  • Shopping performance -- Product-level performance data including clicks, impressions, and cost for your Shopping campaigns. Maps to your Shopify product catalog.

  • Hourly insights -- Hourly breakdowns of impressions, clicks, and cost for time-of-day analysis.

What to expect after connecting

  • Initial sync typically takes 10 to 45 minutes.

  • Your Google Ads data will appear in the Ads dashboard, Blended Metrics view, and be available to Drew AI.

  • Ongoing syncs happen daily (Starter plan) or hourly (Pro plan).

Disconnecting and reconnecting

You can disconnect your Google Ads integration at any time from Settings > Integrations. To reconnect, simply click Connect again and repeat the authorization flow. Your historical data is preserved and syncing resumes from where it left off.
